Final deadline extension for 16th A & P: Monday, June 4th, 2012!!!

Dear A & P, Psychology and Cognitive Science colleagues,  ,

Greetings. The preparation for 16th A & P (June 25 -26, 2012 at the CCU campus in Chiayi) so far has been going very smoothly. However, the paper submission and registration for this year’s A & P has been surprisingly low and slow, and we are very much concerned with the tradition and reputation that so many A & P participants in the past, yourself included, have helped to establish over the years.  Therefore, on behalf of the organizing committee for the 16th Conference on Attention and Perception (16th A & P), we have decided to further extend the deadline to Monday, June 4th, 2012.
I am writing to invite you and/or your graduate students to give a paper presentation (and register for participation) at the upcoming A & P.  We will be very grateful that you would consider and hopefully accept this last-minute invitation.  If you do agree to present your work at the A & P, please go to the A & P website (http://aandp16.blogspot.com/) to submit your paper and register, and please do so by Monday, June 4th, 2012, at the latest.
Once again, thank you very much for your support of past A & P’s and we look forward to seeing you and hearing your presentation at the 16th A & P.

Most sincerely,

Gary C.-W. Shyi (襲充文)

16th A & P Deadline extended to Friday, June 1st, 2012!

Dear A & P, psychology, and cognitive science colleagues,

Upon many requests for extra time of preparation, we have now decided to extend the deadline for paper submission and online registration (http://aandp16.blogspot.com/), and the new deadline will be Friday, June 1st, 2012.  Hopefully with the new deadline, you, your colleagues, and your graduate students will find more time to prepare their paper submission and registration. We sincerely would like to invite and encourage you to submit and share research work from your lab.  Your contribution and active participation will be vital to the survival and success of 16th A & P.  We look forward to seeing and hearing you all at the upcoming A & P.

Best regards,

Gary C.-W. Shyi (襲充文)

(Second announcement)
The 16th Conference on Attention and Perception: Perceptual Organization and Grouping
(Call for papers and Open registration)
 (June 25 - 26, 2012)

(第十六屆「注意力與知覺」學術研討會, 06.25-26, 2012,
嘉義民雄國立中正大學)
(Our most sincere apology if you receive more than one copy of this announcement.)

Dear A & P, Psychology, and Cognitive Science colleagues:

The 16th Attention & Perception (16th A & P) Conference will take place onJune 25th (Monday) and June 26th (Tuesday), 2012, at the campus of National Chung Cheng University in Min-Hsiung, Chiayi, Taiwan. (嘉義民雄,國立中正大學) Professor Mary A. Peterson of University of Arizona (USA) and Professor Rutie (Ruth) Kimchi of University of Haifa (Israel) are invited to be keynote speakers for the conference. As the title theme suggested, this year’s A & P is going back to the fundamental aspect of visual processing and examine how perceptual organization and grouping can play an important role in many parts of higher visual-cognitive processes.
As of today, we are announcing the official call-for-papers (CFP), and thedeadline for paper submission will be Friday, May 25th, 2012. Also, we will begin accepting online registration starting today to Friday, May 25th, 2012. Please log on the website of the 16 th A & P (http://aandp16.blogspot.com/) for details of paper submission as well as other information of the conference (e.g., registration, conference schedule, etc.). Please note that only oral presentations will be considered, and the official language will be English, as we have done in the past.
It goes without saying your active participation will be greatly appreciated and holds the key to yet another successful conference on Attention and Perception. Please do encourage your colleagues and graduate students to be part of the forthcoming conference, and you are more than welcome to present and share with us your latest work and findings. We are looking forward to seeing you again at this year’s A & P.

Announcing the 16th Conference on Attention and Perception: Perceptual
Organization and Grouping (first announcement)

(June 25 - 26, 2012)

(第十六屆「注意力與知覺」學術研討會, 06.25-26, 2012,

嘉義民雄, 國立中正大學)

(Our most sincere apology if you receive more than one copy of this announcement.)

Dear A & P, Psychology, and Cognitive Science colleagues:

After a long and restful break, I hope you are like me and have been asking “when
and where will the next A & P be?” To answer that question, I am delighted to
announce that the 16th Conference on Attention and Perception (henceforth 16th A &
P)will take place on June 25th (Monday) and June 26th(Tuesday), 2012, again at the
campus of National Chung Cheng University in Min-Hsiung, Chiayi, Taiwan. (嘉義
民雄,國立中正大學). Professor Mary A. Peterson of University of Arizona (USA)
and Professor Rutie (Ruth) Kimchi of University of Haifa (Israel) are invited to
deliver keynote lectures in the conference. As the title theme suggested, this year’s A
& P is going back to the fundamental aspect of visual processing and examine how
perceptual organization and grouping can play an important role in many parts of
higher visual-cognitive processes.

Professor Peterson received her Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1984, working
with one of the grand perception masters, Julian Hochberg, and is currently Professor
in the Department of Psychology and Director of the Cognitive Science Program at
the University of Arizona. Her research focuses on visual cognition, in particular, on
the competitive processes involved in figure and ground assignment, the role of past
experience and context in perceptual organization, and the use of implicit measures
to index shape learning. She is a Fellow of the American Psychological Society and
of the American Psychological Association. She was Associate Editor of the Journal
of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance (1996-1999) and
is currently on the editorial boards of that journal and of Psychological Science.
You can find more information about Professor Peterson’s research interests and
accomplishments on her UoA website (http://www.u.arizona.edu/~mapeters/).

Professor Kimchi received her Ph.D. from University of California at Berkeley
in 1982, working with one of the most prominent contemporary vision scientists,
Stephen Palmer, and is currently Professor in the Department of Psychology at
University of Haifa, Israel, and an active member of the renowned Max Wertheimer
Minerva Center for Cognitive Processes and Human Performance. Her research
also focuses on visual cognition, in particular, the principles and the mechanisms
underlying visual perceptual organization. Using several different experimental
paradigms Professor Kimchi and her colleagues have attempted to shed light on
the role of attention in perceptual organization and ontogenesis of perceptual

organization, among many important issues implicating the structures provided
by early perceptual processing. You can find more information about Professor
Kimichi’s research interests and accomplishment on the website in University of
Haifa (http://hevra.haifa.ac.il/~psy/he/).

I’d like to invite each and every one of you who have been supporters to the past
A& Ps or who will become new supporters to the conference to actively participate
in the forthcoming 16th A & P. As we have done in the past, the invited speakers will
each give two talks over the course of two-day conference, in between we will have
papers submitted and accepted for presentation by scholars and graduate students
from Taiwan so that we can all get a chance to receive comments and/or suggestions
on our research work. We will have the official call-for-papers (CFP) and open-to-
registration either at the end of April or early May. To be sure, you will be reminded
the important dates for paper submission and registration when they’re official.

As part of the by-now well established tradition, your active participation will
be greatly appreciated and holds the key to yet another successful conference on
Attention and Perception. We are looking forward to seeing you again at this year’s A
& P.

Most sincerely,

Gary C.-W. Shyi (襲充文)
